I’ve been feeling like my life needs to change. I feel like I waste too much, I don’t move forward, and I’m not prepared for the hardest of times. That is why I am interested in starting this blog. Maybe Bart will introduce himself and why he’s interested in self-reliance as well.
For me, becoming self-reliant offers 3 big benefits:
Simplicity in the good times
Learning to be self reliant removes bad habits. It helps you design a fulfilling life and lifestyle that is right for you. When you become self reliant, you spend more time with your family and friends.
Security in the hard times
Food storage can smooth out catastrophes of any type, from unemployment to political unrest to the latest salmonella scare to major earthquakes. Financial self reliance guarantees you’ll be able to ride out any market, meet any medical need, and get much better sleep.
Survival in the emergencies
When the worst happens, from broken arms to houses on fire, being self reliant means you don’t have to wait to get help. You can get your family out of the house before it burns down. You can deal with the intruder in your home. You can stop the bleeding. You can stay calm and get yourself to a safe location.
…and one more thing
As an added bonus, being self reliant gives you the ability to reach out to teach and help those who aren’t. The more you help spread it, the better off your community will be, the more true friends you’ll have.
